The Yummy Tomato and Avocado Salad

Many must think that if a meal is “healthy,” then there is a sacrifice of the goodness of taste along with the bad stuff as well.  Here at Farm Stand, however, we believe in the simplicity of our creations, and good taste remains a part of the equation.

Let us introduce to you one of our favorite salads: The Yummy Tomato and Avocado Salad.  The ingredients are as simple as the name, just chunks of avocado, red onion, cucumber, tomato, and a thick and potent balsamic dressing.

For all you non-believers, we dare you to give this guy a try!

Going Organic

Here at Farm Stand we boast the freshest of the fresh ingredients you can find in Los Angeles—and to us, this means they are organic as well.  You probably hear this all the time: “100% Organic,” “Organically Grown,” “Gone Organic,” but what does this mean?  Organic products and ways of thinking have been around since the 1940s as a response to the industrialization of agriculture known as the Green Revolution.  Basically, organically farmed foods are not grown with any unnatural additives such as synthetic pesticides, chemical fertilizers, sewage sludge, genetically modified organisms, or ionizing radiation. Also, animals that produce meat, poultry, eggs, and dairy products do not take antibiotics or growth hormones.

Why does this matter, you may wonder? Studies have found that there is a higher nutritional value in organic foods, saying that in the absence of pesticides and fertilizers, plants boost their production of the phytochemicals (vitamins and antioxidants) that strengthen their resistance to bugs and weeds. Also, going organic benefits the environment as well! According to the Organic Trade Association, organic farming reduces pollutants in groundwater and creates richer soil that aids plant growth while reducing erosion.

Have we convinced you yet that “going organic” will take you in the right direction? If not, maybe you should come try our Stuffed Bell Pepper or “Everyone’s Favorite” Pumpkin Ravioli… then tell us what you think!
